Run Game:

A dreadful 2013 was marred with some horrible statistics and ranks for the Falcons, but none were more infuriating than the team ranking dead last in rushing yards. The Falcons addressed this by adding 4th rounder Devonta Freeman in the draft, as well as turning to a true committee approach for the first time under Mike Smith. The results have been impressive. Through 4 weeks, the Falcons rank a solid 14th in the league running the ball, amassing 121.8 yards per game with a healthy 4.8 yards per carry across all RBs. Antone Smith has shown his home run ability on numerous occasions, and will only see more touches having scored long touchdowns in 3 of the Falcons 4 games. The offensive line has opened up some good holes, and has shown a hunger to get into the second level, which is helping the Falcons no end. Outside of Smith, the explosive plays haven’t really been there for the Falcons on the ground, but a steady improvement in 2014 is good news for the Falcons. Grade: B-
