Quick Fact: Atlanta Falcons Must Start Winning on the Road

The Atlanta Falcons must conquer the great outdoors.

Coaches, players, reporters, fans, cats and dogs all love to use stats as a barometer for how well their favorite team performs. Some stats are straight to the point while others take a math genius to explain the formula.

The Atlanta Falcons are 1-8 in their last 9 road games, an embarrassing record

Some stats, however tell the entire story. And the Falcons need to change or their season will end in a heap of disappointment.

The stat that I am speaking about is the Atlanta Falcons horrible road record; they are just 1-8 over their last 9 games away from the Georgia Dome. So far this season they have lost both contest on the road and those contest haven’t even been close and it didn’t help that the offense was dominated in a 24-10 loss in Cincinnati in week 2 while the defense failed to stop rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater in route to a 41-28 loss in Minnesota last Sunday.

This week, the 2-2 Dirty Birds must visit the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. A few weeks ago they were 2-1 and with the Vikings and Giants struggling to score points it looked as if they could easily start the season 4-1 before facing the Chicago Bears at home. All of that has changed after the loss last week coupled with the fact the Giants have hit their stride in their previous two games by outscoring their opponents 75-31.

All of a sudden facing the Giants on the road looks to be a daunting task. With the Falcons mounting injuries and recent road woes, they will need to be firing on all cylinders this Sunday to be victorious, and it is an understatement to say that if the Falcons want to be a playoff team they must win on the road, because they still have several tough opponents on the road including visiting the Baltimore Ravens and a late season trip to Green Bay at Lambeau Field.
