Atlanta Falcons: Reviewing The Falcons’ 2012 Draft Class

The general belief is that you can’t fully grade a draft class until they have played three years in the NFL. With that idea, let’s take a look back the Atlanta Falcons 2012 draft class, and determine it’s success.
It was an interesting draft across the league. There were a number of contrasting fortunes within the top ten picks alone. The Colts struck gold with Andrew Luck first overall; the Redskins didn’t fare so well, mortgaging their future to take Robert Griffin III at No. 2.
The Browns had two first round picks, holding the No. 3 pick as well as the No. 22 pick, which they acquired from the Falcons, who traded up to get Julio Jones the year prior. With the former, the Browns took Trent Richardson; Brandon Weeden was selected with the latter.
Richardson enters 2015 at his third NFL team after failing to record a single 1000-yard season in Cleveland and Indianapolis. Weeden now backs up Tony Romo in Dallas.

It was a draft to forget for the Browns, but a special one for the Seattle Seahawks.
In the opening three rounds, they selected Bruce Irvin, Bobby Wagner and Russell Wilson. Robert Turbin was a solid pick in the fourth, too.
Coming off the back of a 2011 draft which saw the Falcons trade up for Julio Jones and go onto post a 10-6 record, the Falcons headed into the 2012 NFL Draft looking to build on a solid season. Here are the players they selected:
Round 2: C Peter Konz, Wisconsin
Round 3: OT Lamar Holmes, Southern Miss
Round 5: FB Bradie Ewing, Wisconsin
Round 5: DE Jonathan Massaquoi, Troy
Round 6: S Charles Mitchell, Mississippi State
Round 7: DT Travian Robertson, South Carolina
