From a cap space standpoint, this cut makes perfect since to go along with his very poor 2014 season with the Atlanta Falcons. Mike Smith along with Thomas Dimitroff elected to overpay out the wazoo for Tyson Jackson by giving him a 5-year, 25 million dollar contract before the 2014 season. A Jackson cut would save the Falcons just over two million for 2015 and would help the team tremendously down the road.

In his first year with the Falcons, Jackson played in all 16 games and had his worst NFL season to date. Jackson had just 22 tackles, and zero sacks, both career lows. Jackson has never been a high sack guy nor a good run stopper and needs the boot before week one.
