6. RB Tevin Coleman, Atlanta Falcons
Dan Quinn is bringing change to the Atlanta Falcons. Along with new offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, the Falcons are aiming to achieve balance on offense.
In comes second-year pro Devonta Freeman and rookie Tevin Coleman.
Freeman failed to make much of an impact in 2014, but is currently competing with Coleman to be the starter. My prediction all summer long has been that Coleman will be the man to lead the way in 2015.
Coleman is a violent, bruising back who will battle for every yard. Once he gets going in the open field, he can be nearly impossible to tackle. Coleman never seems far away from breaking away for a huge touchdown run. It will be tougher to do this against good NFL defenses, but his skills should translate well.
The concern is if the Falcons split the time at running back. Doing so would make it tough for either Coleman or Freeman to put up enough points on a weekly basis. This one is worth monitoring, but Coleman is certainly picking up later on.
It’s better to take the rookie late in your draft than compete for him on waivers should he get off to a good start. We’ll get a better of idea of how the running back situation is shaping up when he returns from his hamstring injury. Stay tuned.
