Best cornerback duo in NFL?

After the loss to New Orleans, the defense is bound to be ridiculed for the amount of yardage that it surrendered to Drew Brees. But there was one group of the defense that has played remarkably well, so far, and all they need is a little bit of help from the others.

Robert Alford and Desmond Trufant will never be called the best cornerbacks in the league, but they could be the best duo in the NFL. They have limited big plays from the big-time wide receivers for the most part. And with them anchoring the corners, the defense could easily take the next step forward if they’d get a little more pressure up front.

But, back to Trufant and Alford.

These two have limited the likes of DeAndre Hopkins and Brandin Cooks from doing what have made them heralded receivers – score. Sure, there have been a few touchdowns here and there on them, but for the most part, these two have been top-notch in shutting down their opposition.

After seeing them for six weeks, the Falcons have to feel fortunate to have a pair of corners that can limit the opposition’s effectiveness. And as the season continues to play forth, these two will continue to anchor the defense. Let’s just hope that they get a little more help from the defensive line.
