Atlanta Falcons: What were the keys to victory over Titans?

Looking back at last week’s 10-7 victory over the Tennessee Titans, what were the keys to the win? It wasn’t a complete performance by the Atlanta Falcons, but they got the job done.

Worrilow Pick

LB Paul Worrilow made a big interception at the end of the first half that stopped a Titans scoring opportunity. QB Zack Mettenberger had the Titans driving and already in field goal range when he threw an ill-advised pass that was intercepted by Worrilow.

The linebacker ran the ball to within scoring range for the Falcons, however their was a flag on the play which negated the Falcons’ opportunity to kick a field goal to end the half.

Goal line stop by the Titans

Yes, the fourth-and-goal stop seemed to favor the Titans, however I see it as a win for the Falcons. Of course it would have been nice to have put the game on ice by going up by two scores, but I think Coach Quinn’s decision to go for it paid tremendous dividends in the confidence of his players.

That fourth down told every player on the roster that their head coach believes in them. I think it made them come together even more as a team and allowed the defense to go play hard for the coach that has their back.

The defense backed their head coach by coming up with a turnover on the Titans final drive. The decision to go for it on fourth-and-goal might have not yielded the Falcons any points but it will pay huge dividends towards the way the Falcons play for their coach and each other going forward.

Robenson Therezie pick

Robenson Therezie made perhaps the biggest play of the game. Therezie intercepted Mettenberger with under two minutes remaining. It should be noted that Therezie also intercepted Mettenberger in the team’s preseason meeting earlier this season. The Falcons coaching staff definitely like the undrafted free agent out of Auburn and he continues to make good impressions with every snap he gets.

What plays do you think contributed to the Falcons victory?
