Atlanta Falcons: Matt Ryan, Dan Quinn react to 49ers loss
Dan Quinn has a lot of evaluating to do with his football team over the bye week, as the Atlanta Falcons slumped to a third defeat in four games to hit the week off at 6-3. Quinn and quarterback Matt Ryan had plenty to say after the defeat to San Francisco.
Dan Quinn
On decision to kick field goal and not go for it:
“I thought we were getting the stops defensively. We’d get the kick, get the stops, use our timeouts then go and attack them on offense. We’re a really good two-minute team on offense.”
On consecutive losses:
“It’s certainly disappointing anytime you have back-to-back losses. We’re not playing at our best and it makes it hard on us. Both losses are difficult, and this one certainly was because we felt we had a chance to win it and the end and we didn’t.”
On Roddy White:
“It depends on the package we’re in and where the reads take us. That’s really where it goes to, it’s not a matter of going to him or not going to him. It’s really where the reads of the coverage that we’re playing.”
On the game being a learning experience for Quinn:
“There’s been a number of them. For us to go for it on fourth down plays or not go for them, that’s part of the job that goes with me. I kind of had a sequence of how this would go to win the game, but it didn’t work out that way today.”

On whether the first four games or last four better represent Falcons:
“Certainly the first four games. For us we’re at our best when we’re attacking and flying. The effort, the toughness, the finish. That’s where we’re at our best and it’s disappointing for us to have back-to-back losses.”
Matt Ryan
On decision to kick field goal:
“I trusted in Q, I thought he made the decision, felt confident our defense was going to make the stop and I felt like we were going to have a chance to go down the field and get the field goal to win. Everybody in this organisation and in that locker room has Q’s back. We believed in the decision at the time.
“I thought our defense was going to get it done. But from an offensive perspective, we had three opportunities to punch it in before that and that’s where we’ve got to get it done.”
On failure to bounce back after Bucs loss:
“You always expect something better after you play poorly. We didn’t do it today, though. We didn’t play up to the way we’re capable.”
