Are the Atlanta Falcons lacking an identity?
If you’re like me, you’re looking at this 2015 Atlanta Falcons’ team and are wondering what exactly their identity is on both sides of the ball.
the Falcons of the past have been pass heavy on offense and below average at best on defense. However, in 2015, the Falcons are a run first, pass second team. Or are they?
That’s what has been so confusing to watch thus far. Some games the Falcons have been able to establish the run early on in the game which has opened up the passing game for Matt Ryan. But at other times the Falcons have attempted to throw the ball at an extremely high rate and abandon the run as soon as it stops working.
That isn’t a recipe for success knowing that your offense will look drastically different from week-to-week. The Falcons need to spend their 2-week break finding a true identity and that all starts with Kyle Shanahan and Ryan finding common ground.
Is it me or do they show Shanahan talking to Ryan numerous times throughout a game, and every time they show them, they aren’t happy. Just a side note.

Two things are for certain, the Falcons have a great running back in Devonta Freeman and a great wide receiver in Julio Jones. Both players have carried the Falcons through the first nine games, but wont be able to do it all on their own. Guys like Roddy White, Leonard Hankerson and Justin Hardy will need to assert themselves as top-tier wide receivers in order to keep the Falcons balanced.
As far as the defense goes, their identity is stopping the run and relying on a so-so secondary to help win games. The Falcons are still without a pass rush and still are in desperate need of a linebacker who can impact a game in a positive ways such as a Luke Kuechly.
If the Falcons keep playing the way they are playing, they might miss the playoffs even after starting 6-3. The Falcons have a 2-game cushion with seven games left, but will only have one ‘gimme’ win left on the schedule. I’ll let you guys determine who that win will be against.
