The quarterbacks

This was set to be a battle between a signal caller entering his peak in Matt Ryan up against a rising star in Andrew Luck. But due to Luck’s injury, the Falcons face a different challenge from Matt Hasselbeck.

This is Hasselbeck’s 17th year in the league, which is an outstanding achievement. Even at 40-years-old, he can still perform at a high level. He served as the backup to Brett Favre in Green Bay early in his career before becoming the starter for the Seattle Seahawks. After a brief spell in Tennessee, Hasselbeck became the backup to Luck in Indianapolis.

Yet when he’s called upon, he still operates a high level. Hasselbeck has only started two games for the Colts, but he won both. The team can be confident they have a man capable of bringing home the AFC South title while Luck recovers.

But when just looking at the two quarterbacks, Atlanta has the advantage. Matt Ryan isn’t having his best season, but he’s still one of the most reliable signal callers in the game and a player the team can depend on to lead the Falcons into the postseason.

Hasselbeck will keep the Colts offense humming, while Ryan looks to rediscover his early-season form.
