It’s do-or-die for the Atlanta Falcons’ season

Say what you want to say, believe what you want to believe, it’s do or die time for the Atlanta Falcons’ 2015 NFL season.

Sure, they have a very respectable 6-3 record and have a somewhat decent shot at making it back to the playoffs for the first time since 2012, but if this team doesn’t get their ducks in a row in a hurry, everything will come tumbling down on them in a blink of an eye.

We have all witnessed the crack in the Falcons’ foundation in the last two or three games and a week off couldn’t have come at a better time, but it’s time to rise up and make a statement this Sunday. It’s time to show the world whether or not the Falcons are the real deal or just smoke and mirrors.

Every NFL team has the good, the bad and the ugly. Let’s take a look at what each of those mean for the Falcons.

More from Blogging Dirty

The Falcons have been great at running the ball with Devonta Freeman and completing passes to Julio Jones. They have also done a good job of keeping opposing teams out of the endzone. Those are three pretty good things to have going for them, but the bad has outweighed the good as of late.

The bad side of the Falcons has been a lack of fluency on offense. Even though the Falcons have done a good job of completing passes and running the ball effectively, it still seems like they are searching for an identity. It’s quite odd to look at the Falcons’ stats and think that, but that’s what they have been. It’s one of the oddest things I have ever witnessed in the game of football, ever.

Are they good at throwing the ball? Are they good at running the ball? One thing is for certain. Matt Ryan has got to take control of the offense and call his own shots. Kyle Shanahan could very well be the reason why the Falcons’ offense has played poorly as of late, but at the end of the day it’s up to Ryan to make good decisions and lead his team to victory.

The ugly this year has been turnovers. No team can be successful when they turn the ball over at a high rate. The Falcons had 12 turnovers in the three games prior to the San Francisco 49ers loss and have had several others mixed in to start the season as well. Lucky for the Falcons is, if you clean up the turnovers, you fix the ugly.

Are the Falcons a good team? Yeah, they are. But, are they a Superbowl contender? As of right now they aren’t. The Falcons aren’t the only team searching for something which very well may play into their hands, but it’s time to focus at the task at hand and play football at a high level. We all know they are capable of it. Let’s see it.

Rise up!
