Atlanta Falcons fans need to leave Matt Ryan alone

You win some and you lose some. That’s how the game of football goes.

Many of the Atlanta Falcons’ fan base is calling for Matt Ryan’s head after blowing a third quarter lead against the Indianapolis Colts and here’s why that’s absolutely the dumbest thing on planet Earth.

Without Ryan, would the Falcons have beaten the Philadelphia Eagles in week 1 or come back to beat the New York Giants or Dallas Cowboys? Without Ryan, the Falcons would be a very disappointing 3-7 right now instead of 6-4 and that’s not to mention every other fourth quarter comeback he has had since his rookie year in 2008.

There is no arguing that the city of Atlanta has some of the most fair-weather fans in the country. When their teams win, they root for them like there’s no tomorrow, but when they lose, they quickly look to point fingers at someone.

And this time around its Ryan.

People need to realize that Ryan isn’t going anywhere, anytime soon! We didn’t give him $100 million for nothing. He has proven time and time again that he can get the job done and win games when needed. Sure, things haven’t been very good since the 2012 season, but that happens. No team can stay on top forever. Eventually you fall off.

2015 wasn’t supposed to be a playoff year for the Falcons. With a new coach and a lot of new players, this was supposed to be a rebuilding year with maybe seven or eight wins. If that were to of happened, nobody would be calling for anyone’s head because it was expected. However, since the Falcons got off to such a hot start, it’s almost like a false since of security when in reality, a 6-4 start is a much, much better start than expected.

This team is still a couple of years away from being a Super Bowl contender. Anything before that is just an added bonus so all of this cut, trade talk of Ryan needs to stop and stop fast. Anyone and I mean anyone calling for his head isn’t a true Falcons fan. He is the franchise quarterback and if you have a problem with that then there’s the door!

His stats speak for themselves. Look at his resume. Look at his fourth quarter comebacks. Look at his NFL leaving streak of games with at least 250 yards passing. Look at his pro bowl history. Give me a break. The guy has a couple of bad games and the Falcons’ fans go bonkers.

When Ryan goes off in a couple of weeks, you better not start praising him if you’re slandering him now. That’s the definition of a fair-weather fan. You better enjoy Ryan while he is still here because once he’s gone, there goes the best quarterback this franchise has ever had. The Falcons may not get another quarterback as good as Ryan for another 50 years.
