Atlanta Falcons: Matt Ryan, Dan Quinn react to Buccaneers loss
The Atlanta Falcons suffered a fifth straight loss at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Here’s what Dan Quinn and Matt Ryan had to say after the game.
It was another disappointing defeat for the Atlanta Falcons, who dropped a fifth straight game and sixth for the season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Falcons head coach Dan Quinn and quarterback Matt Ryan reacted after the game.
Dan Quinn
“That’s as tough as it gets for us.
“For us, finishing is about doing right longer, and we didn’t get it done. So we’ll give Tampa credit. I thought we had some missed opportunities today.”
On the Bucs converting on 3rd-and-19:
“Give the guy credit for making a play, but I thought that was a real factor in the game. That was another one that got extended. We’ve got to get that play done.”
On Matt Ryan interception to end game:
“I thought we played a really clean game up until that point. In terms of the running backs, the pass game, the throwing, the catching.
“I thought we had a chance for sure, we had a time out and some time to do it. We didn’t get it done.”
On poor tackling:
“Early on they had the run game better than we would have liked. The tackling, we want to be one of the better fundamental teams, so to have a tackle like that escape us and not have the fundamentals exactly like we want, that’s hard.
“We’re going to rely on our fundamentals. It hasn’t been a case of how we’ve practiced, we’ve put the time in. Somehow we’re not getting all the details we want into the game, we’re going to go back and look at it again tomorrow and find that.”
On 5-0 start falling away to 6-6:
“The truth is we’re a .500 club and we’re playing like it. For us to say, how can we play our best football? We’re going to find that answer, and we’re going to do it together. That was the message I had for the club.
“The fourth quarter begins for us. If we’re going to be about finishing, we better recognize that right now.”

Asked whether he believes the Falcons can make the playoffs:
“Absolutely.”
Matt Ryan
“Obviously it was a disappointing loss. We had opportunities I thought throughout the game, to score more points. We had more opportunities in the red zone, we didn’t come away with enough touchdowns. At the end of the game, you don’t want to turn it over on the first play of the drive.”
On falling to 6-6 after 5-0 start:
“It’s disappointing. Obviously we got off to a fast start this season and found a way to get it done late in games. And we haven’t done that enough.
“But we’ve got four games left, and we’re still in the mix.”
On offensive struggles:
“I guess I sound like a broken record saying it, I think there’s been a lot of things we have done well. We just didn’t score today, and that’s what we have to do better.”
