4. Protect Matt Ryan

Carolina is tied for No. 3 in sacks, having made 35 on the year. The Falcons offensive line is going to have a tough assignment slowing down the Panthers pass rush, but there are many ways they can help protect Ryan. If a blitz is coming, the screen game can be effective weapon to cool the rush.

But even better than that is the ability to run the football. If Atlanta can establish the run, they are in turn protecting their quarterback and opening up the play-action pass. When that happens, Ryan will be allowed extra time in the pocket to fire downfield.

3. Don’t turn it over

Turnovers have been a major concern for the Atlanta offense in recent weeks. They did a better job of it last week in Tampa Bay, but it was Matt Ryan’s interception late in the game that ended any hopes of a dramatic comeback victory.

The Panthers leads the league with 29 takeaways, and their ball-hawking defense has a league-high 19 interceptions on the year. Ryan and the Falcons offense need to be careful with the football, because giving up free possessions is a quick fire way to getting comfortably beaten by the Panthers.
