The Atlanta Falcons have several positions that they need to address before the start of training camp next August and who they select in the 2016 NFL draft will be very important.

The Falcons will likely select either a defensive end or a linebacker with their first-round selection but their second-round selection could go in a number of different ways. The Falcons have had rather surprising second-round picks in the previous two drafts so it’s a pretty good chance that they surprise everyone again.

Assuming that the Falcons draft either a DE or LB with their first pick, the second round could be the following positions. DE, LB, S, OG or WR. There are arguments for all five of those positions and at the moment it’s a fairy safe bet that one of those positions will be their second-round selection.

What the Falcons do in free agency will directly affect the draft. If they pickup a wide receiver than you can cross that position of need off of their list in the draft. Same goes for any of the other positions.

If you asked a handful of people on what their biggest needs in order are, they would each give you a different answer. I would argue that the positions of need are as followed. DE, OLB, WR, OG, S.

If you’re looking to pickup a WR in the second round, guys like Michael Thomas, Josh Doctson, Will Fuller and Braxton Miller. If you’re in the market for a safety, a player like Darian Thompson out of Boise State would be a good selection.

Argument’s over what position the Falcons should select will be argued up until the second day of the draft but it’s fun to at least narrow it down to a select few positions.

What position do you think the Falcons should target with their second-round pick?
