Round 2, 50th overall: WR Michael Thomas, Ohio State, 6’3 210 lbs
It’s clear that the #2 wide receiver spot needs an upgrade with Julio Jones and Justin Hardy already in place as WR1 and WR3. What they get here is a receiver in Thomas who I deem to be the best route runner out of Ohio State in quite some time.
What they also get is a receiver who is only scratching the surface of his potential. He has NFL size, solid, reliable hands, cerebral in his routes, as we;; as being a YAC producer. He may not possess the “burner” speed but watch his tape and what you will see is a receiver with exceptional footwork that can pick apart cornerbacks.
