Atlanta Falcons: 4 players they should sign in free agency
George Iloka, SS
Combo safety George Iloka, formerly of the Bengals is set to hit the market after Cincinnati neglected to use their one franchise tag on him and could be an excellent fit in Dan Quinn’s defensive scheme if signed by the Atlanta Falcons.
Iloka is a 6-4, 225-pound safety who has played both safety positions in his 4-year career. Iloka has been a full-time starter on the Bengals’ defense for the last three seasons and would instantly take over the Falcons’ starting strong safety role if signed.
Iloka’s market value is decently high, but it isn’t going to break the bank for the Falcons. Iloka is going to make around $5-6 million per season and could receiver a contract based around 4 years, $22 million.
There is a lot to like about Iloka. He could play the Kam Chancellor role in Quinn’s Atlanta defense with his rare size-to-speed combination and would be a match-up nightmare on players such as Greg Olson and Austin Seferian-Jenkins who are both big tight ends in the NFC South.
The rapidly inflating salary cap could bring Iloka’s price tag up slightly, but if the Falcons could sign him without paying more than $7 million per season, that would be a huge win for the franchise.
