Atlanta Falcons: Three first-round options in 2016 NFL Draft
WR Corey Coleman, Baylor
Will the Falcons use their first round selection on a wide receiver? Almost certainly not. Should they? Well that depends. I’m a firm believer in taking the best player available even if it doesn’t fill a need. But in the case of a wideout, it would be doing exactly that.
If Coleman is top of the Falcons’ board when they make their selection at No. 17, they shouldn’t hesitate to take him. If the idea of drafting a wideout concerns them, they should trade out of the position and acquire extra picks.
But let’s make a case for Coleman. First off, this wide receiver class isn’t as deep as in years past, and Coleman is one of a few guys who could give the offense a huge boost. Adding speed to the roster isn’t just appropriate on defense, but offense too. The Baylor receiver is multi-talented. He has the speed to beat teams deep and the fluidity in his route running to get open quickly.

Plugging in Coleman to Kyle Shanahan’s offense could spell trouble for defenses. No longer would defensive game plans be solely focused on Julio Jones, because doing so would result in huge production for Coleman. Adding a playmaker this talented could make the Falcons’ offense one of the best in the league.
It’s an unlikely scenario, but it would make sense.
