Atlanta Falcons will face Browns, Dolphins in preseason
We now know who the Atlanta Falcons will play in preseason this August.
Preseason is still an area of debate around the league, but for now each team will continue to play four exhibition games before the start of the real thing.
This season, the Atlanta Falcons will face the Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars. It’s common to face primarily AFC games over these four weeks. Here’s the full schedule:
Week 1: vs. Washington Redskins
The Falcons defeated Washington in overtime last year in what was a highly entertaining game. Washington headed to the playoffs but were knocked out in the wild-card round. This will be good early test for the young players.
Week 2: at Cleveland Browns
Will the Browns’ quarterback be Robert Griffin III or a rookie? Perhaps we’ll be witnessing the battle unfold before our eyes when Atlanta visits Cleveland.
Week 3: at Miami Dolphins
These two teams met in preseason last year. This will be a consecutive road game for the Falcons before finishing the preseason slate inside the Georgia Dome.
Week 4: vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
The blockbuster finale to preseason sees the Falcons host the Jaguars. Yawn. At least the regular season will be just a week away.
So there we have it, your Atlanta Falcons preseason schedule. This will be the chance for the starters to knock off some rust and find some rhythm ahead of the new season while the young guys will have a shot to lock down spots on the roster and prove they deserve more playing time.
We won’t see Matt Ryan throwing many touchdown passes to Julio Jones, but instead will get a glimpse of Sean Renfree and Matt Schaub connecting with Justin Hardy and Nick Williams.

In reality, the NFL should cut down the length of preseason. Despite their best attempts to hype up the games, teams are using their starters less and less to avoid injuries and we’re seeing some average entertainment between backups. Do they really need four games to evaluate young talent?
