Outside of a couple of Julio Jones’ receptions, the Atlanta Falcons’ secondary as a collection had a terrific three-day mini camp.

Virtually no passes of 20 plus yards were allowed by any of the players outside of DeMarcus Van Dyke and several players either intercepted the ball or had a near interception.

On the final day of mini camp, the play of cornerback Jalen Collins really stood out. Collins played with the backups due to his four-game suspension that he will be forced to serve at the beginning of the season, but that didn’t stop him from making some big plays.

Collins made a near sliding interception and broke up at least three passes that had the rest of the defense amped up on the sidelines. It was clear that Collins was doing everything he could to show the Falcons’ coaching staff and teammates alike that he deserves a spot on this team.

Kemal Ishmael had a nice three-day camp as well. He made a terrific diving interception off of a tipped pass near the end of practice and was solid in coverage as well. Ishmael will be competing with rookie Keanu Neal for the starting strong safety spot in 2016.

Neal looked solid as well. He was solid in coverage which was nice to see. The one question mark surrounding Neal is whether or not he can drop back into coverage and hold his own and he did that in the three practices.

Desmond Trufant and Robert Alford were great as always. They are slowly turning into one of the best duos in the NFL and those to will be a lot of fun to watch in 2016. It’s hard to believe that at the age of 25 and 27, they are the two veterans in the Falcons’ secondary. Those two will need to mentor the younger guys as much as possible and help them to feel more comfortable.
