With news breaking that Washington Redskins running back Matt Jones is skipping OTAs, should the Atlanta Falcons look that way for some offensive help?

Former 2015 third-round running back Matt Jones has yet to be released or traded by the Washington Redskins, but it was reported on May 24 that he will be skipping Organized Training Activities out of his displeasure with his situation with the team. Should the Atlanta Falcons be interested if he is looking for a new home?

Jones started seven games for Washington last year and average 4.6 yards per carry on 99 attempts and scored three touchdowns. In his rookie year he displayed receiving skills with 19 catches and an average of 16 yards per reception. However, a knack for fumbling put him in Jay Gruden’s doghouse and he was phased out in favor of Rob Kelley and Chris Thompson. The icing on the cake then appeared to be the drafting of Samaje Perrine in the fourth round this past April.

Jones weighs in at a solid 232 pounds and clocked a 4.61 at his scouting combine workout. He’s a strong inside runner with the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. He might be good competition for rookie Brian Hill to be the short-yardage specialist.

On the other hand, a lengthy injury history and those fumbling issues, along with not necessarily being a good fit for the zone-stretch scheme Atlanta runs, might keeps the Falcons away even if he does hit the open market, or become available via trade if the Redskins grow tired of him missing out on offseason workouts.
