Atlanta Falcons: Does Anquan Boldin want to play for NFC South champs?
By Randy Gurzi
Does free agent wide receiver Anquan Boldin want to play for the Atlanta Falcons, and if so is there room for him on their roster?
Anquan Boldin has been playing wide receiver in the NFL for 14 seasons and is going to turn 37-years old this October. That doesn’t mean he’s ready to hang it up as reports are that he wants to play for one more season. After playing for the Detroit Lions last season, he now apparently wants to play closer to home to finish his career — which makes the Atlanta Falcons a potential destination according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.
"“Boldin grew up in Pahokee, in South Florida, and went to college at Florida State, near the Georgia-Florida border. That would suggest he’d like to play for the Dolphins, Buccaneers, Jaguars or Falcons, although he doesn’t necessarily seem to be a great fit for those teams’ needs.” — Michael David Smith, Pro Football Talk"
Smith added that most of those teams really wouldn’t need Boldin’s services. The Falcons surely would agree as they are set with Julio Jones, Mohamed Sanu, Taylor Gabriel and Justin Hardy as the focal points of their receiving group. They also have tight end Austin Hooper on board as a pass catching option.
It’s interesting to keep an eye on still, especially if an injury were to occur to an Atlanta receiver. Should Boldin remain jobless, he would be a good candidate to fill in should such a thing happen.
After spending seven seasons with the Arizona Cardinals Boldin went to the Baltimore Ravens where he played for three seasons. He then was dealt to the San Francisco 49ers where he spent three more years before joining Detroit in 2016. He had 67 receptions and eight touchdowns for the Lions, but had just 584 yards.
