3. Jack Crawford

Last year, defensive line was arguably the biggest weakness on the Falcons’ roster. This year, it is the team’s most improved position group, at least according to Thomas Dimitroff.

Part of the reason why is the addition of defensive lineman Jack Crawford. Crawford came to the team from the Cowboys, where he mostly played defensive end for Rod Marinelli.

In Atlanta, Crawford will play mostly inside, where he can use his quickness to beat the slower footed interior linemen. The team is going to need his contributions, too, given the recent announcement of Ra’Shede Hageman’s looming suspension.

Considering Hageman is an impending free agent and Crawford the recent recipient of a three year contract, the former has the opportunity to cement his name in the Falcons’ defensive line rotation for the future.

4. C.J. Goodwin

Due to the suspension of cornerback Jalen Collins, Goodwin has been thrusted into the spotlight for the Falcons. The wide receiver convert is entering his second full season at cornerback with a prime opportunity staring him in the face.

If Goodwin handles his business on the field, this new gig may become more than just a temporary one. Collins has already proven twice now that he’s not the long-term answer at corner due to his off-field troubles.

The hope is that cornerback does not evolve into a position of need for the Falcons in 2018. But that burden now rests on the shoulders of C.J. Goodwin.
