Atlanta Falcons: Team awards after four games

Biggest Letdown: Austin Hooper, TE

This may not be an award per se, but tight end Austin Hooper was looking like a break out star coming into his second season. He started to live up to that with 128 yards and a touchdown in Week 1, but since then he’s been incredibly quiet.

Hooper had two receptions for seven yards against the Green Bay Packers and added just one for nine yards against the Detroit Lions. This past week with both Julio Jones and Mohamed Sanu hurt he managed five grabs, but was minimal in the damage he did pulling in 50 yards. That would have been a great time to step up with more production, but he simply didn’t.

MVP: Devonta Freeman, RB

And the MVP for the quarter-mark is Devonta Freeman. This was the reason he wasn’t given the offensive player as Freeman had his sights on a bigger prize. With 285 yards on the ground and 70 receiving, Freeman has been a consistent weapon for the Atlanta offense. On top of that, he has five rushing touchdowns, which leads the team in scores.

After signing his big deal in the offseason Freeman is once again showing up to play for the Dirty Birds. He’s a huge reason they’re 3-1 a quarter of the way through and will be a big reason for any future success as well.
