Falcons vs Jets Week 8 Game Recap
By Ikaika Hall
Atlanta Falcons receive their first victory this month, breaking a three game losing streak, and moving to 4-3 on the season.
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan lost two fumbles. The Falcons defense committed their fair share of penalties. But today, that didn’t matter. The Falcons won anyway.
In a game impacted severely by the elements (rain and wind), the Falcons had to dig deep and remained poised.
Trailing the New York Jets for a good portion of the game, the Falcons were able to provide some defensive stops, two of which resulted in missed Jets field goals.
The deep ball was working for Ryan today, finding Falcons receiver Julio Jones for a 50-yard plus gain. Thus far this season, Ryan’s long ball timing has been off somewhat.

Coleman’s backfield counterpart, Falcons running back Devonta Freeman, left the game with what appeared to be a hurt shoulder (no update further updates regarding Freeman at this time).
Falcons offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian utilized Atlanta’s tight ends well today. Falcons tight ends Austin Hooper and Levine Toilolo combined for six catches for 67-yards and one touchdown.
Falcons receiver Mohamed Sanu caught a spectacular touchdown pass and finished the day with six catches for 74-yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, Falcons rookie defensive end Takkarist McKinley had a sack, contributing to Atlanta’s three total team sacks for the game.
Atlanta’s special teams unit recovered a fumble and nearly produced a punt return for a touchdown, less a penalty, which negated the would be six points.
Perhaps the biggest takeaway from today’s game is the fact that Atlanta was down 16-17 in the 4th quarter. However, the Falcons were able to score a touchdown and field goal to take and maintain the lead.
Atlanta has the ability to close games. They proved that today.
Great win. Atlanta now has a one game winning streak.
