Atlanta Falcons’ starting cornerback Desmond Trufant is cleared to play vs the New Orleans Saints along with cornerback Brian Poole.

The 7-5 Atlanta Falcons take on the division-leading 9-3 New Orleans Saints in Atlanta on Thursday in a game that could ultimately determine the Falcons’ playoff hopes. Who will and won’t play will be crucial factors in determining a key victory for Atlanta.

Cornerback Desmond Trufant is ready to go after clearing concussion protocol on Monday. Trufant missed the past two games after sustaining a concussion in the Falcons’ Week 11 win vs the Bucs. This is phenomenal news for Atlanta as they will need all the help they can get in the secondary when facing a high powered Saints offense led by quarterback Drew Brees. New Orleans is ranked number two overall in offense in 2017.

Per Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com, cornerback Brian Poole is also cleared to play vs the Saints this week as he missed Atlanta’s game vs Minnesota last week with a back injury.

Losing Poole in the Vikings game was a huge blow to the Falcons as he was Trufant’s backup. This caused many players in the secondary to change positions such as safety Ricardo Allen. According to Poole, last week was the first time he missed a game since his youth football days so this rivalry game gave every reason for him to be motivated to come back.

Guard Andy Levitre will be out due to a triceps injury. This injury was sustained in Atlanta’s loss to Minnesota. Ben Garland will start in his place.

Saints running back Mark Ingram has not practiced this week due to a toe injury and is questionable to play vs Atlanta. Ingram has been a solid contributor to the Saints in 2017 as he has rushed for 922 yards and nine touchdowns.
