The Atlanta Falcons are looking to re-sign Matt Ryan to a long-term deal that will keep him in Atlanta for the rest of his career.

The Falcons have not made any significant moves in free agency up until Wednesday, when they agreed to sign guard Brandon Fusco to a 3-year, $12.75 million deal. Now, Atlanta’s priority is quarterback Matt Ryan‘s extension.

Thursday is the first official day for free agents to sign with teams and this now opens the door for the Falcons to take care of Ryan’s new deal as soon as possible.

Per D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Falcons will be looking to re-sign Matt Ryan to a deal in the range of 6 years, $180 million.

On Tuesday, NFC South division rival Drew Brees agreed to a 2-year, $50 million deal to remain a Saint.

Ryan’s last contract extension was in the spring of 2013 with a five-year pact that totaled $103.75 million. Since then, he has carried the Falcons to three playoff wins, an MVP award and a Super Bowl appearance in 2016.

During his time in Atlanta, Ryan has garnered 26 fourth-quarter comeback wins and last season he reached 40,000 career passing yards quicker than any quarterback in NFL history.

Ryan regressed in 2017 compared to his MVP season in 2016, but mistakes are inevitable when working with a new offensive coordinator.
