Atlanta Falcons need to avoid Josh McDaniels

For the rest of the 2019 NFL season, Atlanta Falcons fans and media will speculate who the next head coach is going to be.

The general consensus is the Atlanta Falcons will clean house at the end of the season. Many fans want a flashy name and Josh McDaniels the offensive coordinator for the Patriots, is a flashy name that fans are screaming for.

Josh McDaniels will not take the Falcons to the Super Bowl. In fact, outside of the 2016 season, the results are going to be the exact same with Dan Quinn. The Patriots have been so good for such a long time, but the success is mostly because of Bill Belichick. McDaniels has been the Patriots offensive coordinator since the 2012 season.

Despite having a hall of fame quarterback, the Patriots never had historical numbers with him as the offensive coordinator.

In 2015 during Dan Quinn’s first season as a coach for the Falcons, he led the team to a 5-0 record to start the year but finished the season 8-8 and missed the playoffs. In 2009 during Josh McDaniels first season as the Broncos head coach, he led his team to a 6-0 record and missed the playoffs with an 8-8 record.

McDaniels could also put the Falcons in a bad position. During the 2017 NFL offseason, the Colts offered McDaniels the head coaching job and he accepted the position. Shortly after accepting it he backed out and the Colts had to scramble to find another head coach because the other top candidates were already on other teams.

Thankfully for the Colts, they hired Frank Reich the Eagles offensive coordinator during their Super Bowl run. The Colts were lucky they were able to hire him. Given the Falcons streak of being unlucky McDaniels could do the exact same thing and put the Falcons in a bad situation.

McDaniels has an 11-17 record as a head coach. The Atlanta Falcons need a coach that is accountable, manages the game well, and is innovative. McDaniels would not make a great head coach for the Falcons.

If fans have been paying attention, they would realize he would not be a great hire because the Patriots offense has been struggling this year. The Falcons need to target someone from the Andy Reid or Mike Zimmer coaching tree.
