Atlanta Falcons: Raheem Morris has a lot riding on final four games
Atlanta Falcons will judge Raheem Morris on the next four games
The Atlanta Falcons have a major decision to make in terms of the head coaching position and Raheem Morris is still trying to vie as a candidate for the job.
Morris, who was named the interim head coach for the Falcons following the firing of Dan Quinn, has coached the team to a 4-3 record since he took over.
He was previously the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and has held a few different positions within the Falcons organization before being promoted to defensive coordinator for the 2020 season.
While most Atlanta Falcons fans are already looking for the franchise to move on, Morris has a lot riding on these next four games
Morris’s first tenure as a head coach wasn’t a good one. He led a mediocre Buccaneers team for a couple of seasons before eventually getting fired and has been working his way back up ever since.
While Morris is a bright defensive mind, the truth of the matter is that he hasn’t shown the propensity to make the right decisions as a head coach. There’s much more than ‘X’s and O’s’ when it comes to head coaches.
You’ve got to bring & create energy. You’ve got to be a leader. You’ve got to be a good manager. And you’ve got to be able to make the right decisions and calls late in games when it matters most.
Through these first few games as the interim and looking back at his time before Atlanta, Morris hasn’t shown the ability to do all of those things consistently. If you’re the Falcons, that should set off a red flag when you’re looking to make the official hire and it’s not really all that difficult to recognize.
Morris’s chances aren’t completely out the window, but he is going to have to show quite a bit of development over the course of these next four games to have a chance.
