Atlanta Falcons could play spoiler to Buccaneers’ dream season

The Atlanta Falcons don’t have an opportunity to earn a playoff spot in 2020, but they still could play spoiler to their NFC South rival down the stretch.

The Falcons will play host to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday afternoon in Mercedes-Benz Stadium and it will be the final home game of the season.

Atlanta lost its final opportunity to potentially get back in the playoff race with a loss against the Chargers this past weekend, but the truth is that even had they won the game the chances would’ve been extremely slim for them to make the postseason.

Though the Atlanta Falcons can’t make the playoffs, they could at least make things harder for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

At this point in the season, Falcons fans have already given up and most are rooting for nothing more than for the team to lose these final three games and earn a top-five spot in the NFL Draft.

That being said, the Falcons have two games remaining against the Bucs and they could actually play spoiler in the worst type of way to their rival.

Tampa Bay will enter this one with an 8-5 record and they’ve got a major opportunity to take a step towards locking up a playoff spot with a win in Atlanta this weekend.

But what if the Falcons came away not just with one upset of the Buccaneers, but two?

If that were to happen, the Bucs could only finish 9-7 at best and there is still a slight chance (if everything went perfectly) that Tampa would miss out on the postseason. That would mainly take the Chicago Bears and Arizona Cardinals winning out for those of you who are wondering.

In the end, playing spoiler isn’t near as much fun as playing for legitimate playoff contentions but it’s something to keep in the back of your mind at least as we head into this game.
