Matt Ryan is trending on Twitter, but not for the reason you’d think

Atlanta Falcons fans are always up for a conversation when it comes to QB Matt Ryan.

Falcons fans have grown to gravitate to two complete polar opposite sides of the spectrum when it comes to Matt Ryan and there is very little room for in between.

Either you believe it’s past time for the Falcons to move on from him and find his predecessor or you think that Ryan isn’t the problem and that- with the right pieces- the Falcons could still win under his leadership.

Because of those two opposite views, it’s easy to see why Falcons fans get in wars with one another on social media. That being said, Matt Ryan was trending nationally on Twitter Friday afternoon and it had nothing to do with those fan opinions or, actually, anything to do with Atlanta.

Arsenal Football Club announced the signing on loan of goalkeeper Matt Ryan on Friday to give them what most believe will be a solid backup at the position.

Of course, that didn’t stop Atlanta Falcons fans from having a little fun over the trending nature of Matt Ryan

It’s really not hard to see why fans would hold their breath at the sight of seeing their starting quarterback’s name trending on Twitter.

Typically, if you’re a current athlete and trend that far up the list, it means just a few things:

  1. You made a comment that people are absolutely tearing apart
  2. You’ve been traded or are immersed in legitimate trade rumors
  3. Something tragic has happened

This time, though, it had nothing to do with the Atlanta Falcons and everything to do with a backup goalkeeper. Oh, what times we live in.
