The Atlanta Falcons currently have one quarterback on its roster.

The Atlanta Falcons are coming into this year’s draft with a lot of questions in regards to who they will select with the fourth overall pick. Most of the mock drafts have them selecting a quarterback with that pick.

While there are plenty of people that want to push Matt Ryan out the door for a fresh new face, selecting a quarterback at number four could be fatal.

The Atlanta Falcons should select a quarterback in this year’s draft but making that pick at number four is not the best decision as they have more important issues to address at the number four spot.

When the Falcons drafted Matt Ryan, they provided him with an adequate running game, offensive line and the defense wasn’t terrible, any quarterback they decide to bring in won’t be as lucky.

The Atlanta Falcons should fix those issues first and allow Matt Ryan to be a “crash test dummy”.

Being an early first-round selection as a quarterback comes with a lot of expectations.

Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, or Mac Jones, as e every early first-round quarterback, would have a lot of pressure to perform from the fan base, especially if you compare them to the rookie season that Justin Herbert and Joe Burrow had.

Speaking of Joe Burrow…

Joe Burrow had his fair share of weapons in Cincinnati but he couldn’t use them to their full advantage because of his offensive line. There were too many times last season where we saw Burrow running for his life and it will no different for whoever takes the snaps for the Falcons. (It will be Matt Ryan)

Young quarterbacks will make mistakes but it’s nice to have a defense that can help him along the way so he doesn’t have to do too much. This season, we found Matt Ryan trying to do too much to keep the Falcons in games because the defense couldn’t stop a nose bleed.

In the end, this franchise is not ready for a young quarterback.

There are a lot of people saying that the Falcons can draft that quarterback and have him sit behind Ryan to learn for a year.

What happens if Ryan suffers a catastrophic injury and the young quarterback gets thrown in the fire? Being in those situations has ruined quite a few quarterbacks. Spending an early first-round pick on a quarterback could set the franchise back a few years if he gets thrown into a situation that he just can’t handle.

It would be safer for the Falcons to spend a mid-round pick on a quarterback.

There won’t be much expectation plus you won’t have to pay this quarterback a couple million dollars to hold a clipboard for God knows how long. Fix that offensive line, running game, defense, and then we can talk about adding a young stud first-round quarterback.

Next. Falcons will be tempted in the first round of the NFL Draft. dark
