As an Atlanta Falcons fan, you hear everything, mostly negative things about the franchise, the city, the coaching staff and the players – though none more than Matt Ryan.

The main one that is stuck in many NFL fan’s minds is that Matt Ryan choked in Super Bowl 51, and was the reason the TEAM lost the game. It is crazy how people will run with theories without looking at the facts. They will never get over themselves and admit the truth.

Matt Ryan was the reason they got one step away from the top of the mountain, and a lot of other factors were the reason they could not take that last step.

Compare football to a car, the quarterback is the engine of the team, but when a car malfunction is it always the engine’s fault? Absolutely not. It takes a ton of different parts for a car to run.

A football team cannot play with just a quarterback, it is a team game for a reason.

This is the perfect example when looking at Super Bowl 51, Matt Ryan was NOT the reason for the team losing. In fact, you can easily make the argument that Matt Ryan had a much better game than that of the winning team’s quarterback, Tom Brady.

Matt Ryan is the last person you can blame for the crushing Superbowl loss in 2017, there is absolutely no argument for that.

No other stat comparison shows that more than the following:

What more evidence could you want or need?

Most people will start making awful reasons for Matt Ryan being the reason the Atlanta Falcons lost. Starting with giving the ball away on a strip-sack, but they will ignore the fact that Devonta Freeman blatantly missed a block that caused the strip-sack.

No quarterback takes the snap from the center and immediately secures the ball from a fumble, they drop back and scan the field with the ball in the best position to get out of their hands the fastest.

You cannot blame Matt Ryan for thinking he has enough time to look up and scan the field.

People tend to think that a quarterback like Patrick Mahomes can win a game by himself, well certainly if there is one player who could do that it would be him, but this past Super Bowl is a perfect example for showing that no one player can win a game alone.

No one blames Patrick Mahomes for losing that game, but yet the same people want to blame Matt Ryan for losing Super Bowl 51.

Matt Ryan had 14 more passing yards in nine fewer attempts during Super Bowl 51 than Patrick Mahomes in Super Bowl 55. Ryan also had two touchdowns and zero interceptions compared to Mahomes’ zero touchdowns and two interceptions. Matty Ice was also sacked two more times for 17 more lost yards.

The purpose of telling these stats was not to say Matt Ryan is better than Patrick Mahomes, it is to prove a point. If Mahomes was not at fault for losing his Super Bowl, then neither was Matt Ryan.

With all that said, Matt Ryan and Julio Jones are the two people you can never blame for the Superbowl loss. They left everything they had out on the field and then some.

Adding to that, Matt Ryan had a better performance than Tom Brady did in the dreaded game. Tom Brady just had a lot of help at the right time.

Ryan does not get the credit he deserves for his durability, consistency, and great performances he routinely puts up.
