5. Pick anyone on the free-agent market and they will improve the Atlanta secondary

Watching the Atlanta Falcons secondary get burned on basic coverage on Sunday was frustrating. Not only did they get burned repeatedly by nobody receivers they failed to play basic coverage. The Washington quarterback even attempted to play catch with the Atlanta corners.

There were three passes in this game that was right to an Atlanta defender. A defender who failed to make the play every time. This is not counting the late touchdown throw that Taylor tossed into the air as a prayer.

It isn’t hyperbolic to say pick a player sitting in free agency and they would improve the Atlanta secondary. Unfortunately for Atlanta fans, it is all too true, it isn’t the scheme or the coaching Atlanta should be blaming it is the players.

Very basic zone or man schemes are always beaten by the offense. The defense often is out of position or seems unaware they are supposed to attempt to stop the opposing pass-catchers. Richard Sherman is off the market but there are still corners that would improve and perhaps give Matt Ryan a chance to outgun the opponent. If everything remains the same it is going to be a long season for what should be the worst secondary in football.
