The Atlanta Falcons will have to make a tough choice before the trading deadline

The timing for the NFL deadline puts teams in a difficult scenario, especially for teams like the Atlanta Falcons who do not know if they could actually contend or not.

The deadline comes the day after the conclusion of week eight in the NFL—Tuesday, November 2, at 4 p.m. eastern time. This puts it just before the middle of the season since there is now an extra game on each team’s schedule.

The reasoning for it creating a difficult scenario? The deadline comes after the Falcons play their seventh game out of 17 total games.

With there being so many fewer games in the NFL compared to leagues like the MLB and NBA, it is difficult to know exactly if your team can legitimately compete or not which is the deciding factor between being a “buyer” or a “seller.”

Early indications for Atlanta show that they should enter as a seller—they have not consistently played well, they are entering the first year of a new regime, they lack depth, and they are simply not close to the top teams in the NFL.

The next two games could play a huge part in the decision, however. Whether they blow out Miami and Carolina, if they barely win the two games, or have negative outcomes, will determine what Terry Fontenot will do.

If the Atlanta Falcons do become sellers, here are some players they should consider trading away.
