The last thing Atlanta Falcons fans want to hear is Calvin Ridley being put in an even more difficult spot in an upcoming game—but it seems as though that is the case.

The Panthers have been decent on defense, but they also have not played many elite offenses. They have had numerous injuries across the cornerback position. However, due to a recent trade and activation off of the PUP list, Calvin Ridley might struggle yet again.

Falcons top receiver will now go to battle against a former All-Pro corner

Atlanta’s top wide receiver has struggled mightily this year, he has failed to make an impact throughout games, bringing on the realization that he may not be capable of being a top receiver.

At the beginning of the month, the Carolina Panthers traded for former defensive player of the year, Stephon Gilmore. Once regarded as the best corner in the league. He has yet to play a snap for the team due to him being on the “physically unable to perform” list. Prior to Sunday’s matchup between the Falcons and Panthers, Carolina has activated him.

It seems like he will be making his debut by being tasked to shut down Calvin Ridley.

Certainly, Ridley has the pedigree that proves he could have a huge day against any corner, but this year it has been a different story.

With Gilmore not playing in a long time, it will be interesting to see how he plays. He could be extremely rusty, and if he is, Calvin must take advantage. He has been known to shadow receivers, so certainly the Panthers could elect to stick him on Ridley.

Prior to the Panthers activating Gilmore, they were struggling at the position. They currently have Donte Jackson and A.J. Bouye listed as the top two corners, but it would not be shocking to see Gilmore play as the top cover guy depending on how healthy he is.

We will see how the Falcons and Panthers play the matchup game, Calvin Ridley must start the game fast and keep that momentum going.
