Falcons essentially traded Matt Ryan for Jalen Mayfield
This has got to be one of the worst trades in NFL history, and of course, it involves the Falcons. Atlanta has elected to trade their greatest passer in franchise history for a third-round pick…… that is all.
It is a monumental mistake by Terry Fontenot and one that you could argue, should get him fired, but Arthur Blank will not do that.
Falcons basically traded Matt Ryan for Jalen Mayfield
Yes, you read that right, the Falcons have pulled off a trade that is the equivalent of trading their greatest player in franchise history for the league’s worst starting offensive guard last season.
Jalen Mayfield is Terry Fontenot’s only third-round draft pick as an NFL general manager. It seems like he made the incorrect decision, hopefully, the same will not be said about the Falcons newest draft pick.
Obviously, every NFL draft pick is different and can turn out different but this still illustrates how awful this deal was.
This was a great deal for the Colts who got an upgrade at quarterback while gaining draft capital, as well as being a great deal for Matt Ryan, which is awesome to see as we get to see Matty Ice go to a team that can actually compete this year.
So, basically, it was a good deal for everyone but the Atlanta Falcons, which should be expected at this point from this franchise.
If you thought it could not get any worse, it can, this was not even the Colts’ best third-round pick!
The Colts traded pick No. 82, their original pick, for Ryan, a source says. So the third-rounder they keep is No. 73 from Washington.

Oh man, where do we go from this. If you were Terry the least you could do is get the 73rd-overall pick rather than the 82nd. It makes a horrible deal that much worse.
Nothing else can be said, the Atlanta Falcons front office has pulled off one of the worst trades in NFL history.
