3 Reasons the Atlanta Falcons made the right move trading Matt Ryan
By Nick Halden
1. Atlanta wasn’t getting back to the Super Bowl with Matt Ryan
Atlanta’s window for a Super Bowl ended after the team’s magical 2016 run that ended in complete collapse and misery. The team should be proud of what they accomplished that season despite the way it ended. As sick as Atlanta fans are of hearing about it the ending is what needs to be focused on here. Atlanta under Matt Ryan was never the same team after their Super Bowl collapse.
The team never recovered and needed a completely fresh start to put what happened behind them. The collapse will continue to be talked about and build Tom Brady’s legacy even when he leaves the sport. Ryan’s tenure in Atlanta is often unfairly talked about due to a Super Bowl failure that belongs not on Ryan’s shoulders but on the coaching staff and Devonta Freeman’s inability to make a key block.
Even if this team made it back to the Super Bowl with Matt Ryan what would the story be? Atlanta and Ryan needed a fresh start to push this behind them and find success with a new leader and a new group. The Falcons needed a rebuilt roster and fresh leadership to reset a franchise tired of being embarrassed.
