Where do the Atlanta Falcons rank in the NFC South?
By Nick Halden
4. Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers will remain at the bottom of the division as long as Sam Darnold remains their starter. He is still the worst option in the weak division and won’t give a decent roster a chance to win. With an early draft pick and plenty of trade assets, it would be surprising to see the Panthers head into the season with Darnold as the starter.
Whether it is bringing back Cam Newton in a better offense or drafting their own guy the Panthers are one position away from being competitive. A capable quarterback would make the Panthers a wildcard contender and have them leapfrogging the Atlanta Falcons and competing with the Saints for a wildcard spot.
If they go into the season with Darnold as the starter, however, this Carolina team will finish with a top-ten draft pick once again and find themselves in the bottom of the division despite playing in a weak division. With the 6th overall pick in the upcoming draft, the Panthers will likely have their choice at the position with the teams scheduled in front of them all having clear starters locked in.
