1. Atlanta cannot afford to reach at the quarterback position

Until the Atlanta Falcons manage to find their quarterback of the future this team isn’t getting anywhere close to contending. This is a fact that any NFL fan knows much less the Atlanta Falcons front office. It is part of the reason for their ill-advised attempt to bring Deshaun Watson to Atlanta.

This team needs a quarterback but that doesn’t mean they have to draft one this off-season. Next year’s quarterback class is far superior and Atlanta will likely have a top-ten pick yet again. Atlanta should take a quarterback only if their guy is there at the right time. If there is an early run on quarterbacks Atlanta shouldn’t panic and make a risky decision. There is an argument to be made the Falcons shouldn’t select a quarterback in the first round whatsoever. Malik Willis and Kenny Pickett seem to be the exceptions with both players projected to go early in the first round. Willis in particular is an exciting potential fit and could sit behind Mariota until the roster is improved. If Atlanta reaches for a quarterback and it doesn’t work it will likely be the end for a front office and coaching staff already off to a concerning start.
