3 Reasons Desmond Ridder should be the Atlanta Falcons week one starter
By Nick Halden
3. The Atlanta Falcons need to follow the Cardinals’ example
The Arizona Cardinals drafted Kyler Murray only a year after taking Josh Rosen in the first round. The team took a shot at the position gave Rosen the reigns and knew quickly he wasn’t going to be the answer long term. The very next year the Cardinals brought in Murray and found the franchise quarterback they so badly needed.
This isn’t to suggest that Ridder is Josh Rosen, simply that if he is the sooner Atlanta finds out the better. Next year’s quarterback class appears to be much better and deeper than this past off-season and regardless of how Ridder plays Atlanta is likely going to end the season with a top pick.
Starting Mariota is a waste of valuable time Atlanta has to evaluate Desmond. If he isn’t the starter long-term Atlanta can begin to turn their focus towards next year’s top quarterback prospects.
Atlanta needs to put Ridder into the starting lineup just as the Cardinals did with Rosen and find out if he is the answer. If not, Atlanta has the roster to land a top draft pick and find another answer next off-season.
