The Atlanta Falcons could end up cutting running back Damien Williams

The Falcons do not need any more running backs, it is a crowded position due to free agent signings, a position change, and a draft pick.

You know Cordarrelle Patterson will make the team, there is no doubt about that. He was a key offensive piece last year.

Tyler Allgeier is someone they obviously like a lot and he is bound to make the roster. Then you have Avery Williams who switched from corner to running back but he will likely make the roster due to his expertise as a kick and punt returner.

That leaves Qadree Ollison and Damien Williams. Certainly, Ollison seems like the more likely choice to be cut but he looked impressive last year and looked great in his first preseason action. He could end up forcing the team to keep him and there is no way they are keeping five running backs as well as a fullback.

Something else that does not help Damien Williams is that he is known for his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield, but the Falcons already have receiving threats out of the backfield.

Patterson is one of the best in the NFL, Avery Williams will likely be used primarily as a pass-catching back, and then reports have been that Allgeier has looked great as a receiving threat.

That makes Damien Williams’s talents a little redundant, his job may come down to whether or not Qadree Ollison continues to perform. They might also cut both of them, who knows. But releasing Damien Williams would also save $1.1 million in cap space.

We haven’t even mentioned the fact that he played in 12 games for the Bears last year but only managed 167 total yards and three touchdowns.
