3 Things the Atlanta Falcons learned in week two loss to Rams

2. Marcus Mariota is inconsistent
Marcus Mariota is a roller coaster within himself making a great throw on the run or scrambling for a key first down only to follow that play up by looking the defense to his receiver and failing to make the connection. His decision-making was inconsistent and frustratingly slow for the Falcons throughout this game. While he had great moments that fueled the comeback he ended it as well with a terrible decision that resulted in a Jalen Ramsey interception.
If you’re the Falcons you begin to think about how quickly Desmond Ridder could be ready this season. If the Falcons have a franchise quarterback under center on the final drive on Sunday it is hard to argue they wouldn’t have completed the comeback with Mariota making back-to-back poor decisions that stalled the Atlanta offense.
Mariota is ultra-talented but what ended his career with the Titans was on full display on Sunday. If he is going to continue as the Atlanta quarterback he cannot continue to turn the football over at the rate he has this season. Outside of his connection with Drake London, the Atlanta Falcons’ passing attack has been inconsistent despite having Kyle Pitts and improved depth at receiver. Mariota needs a big week three or the rumblings for Ridder will begin to grow.
