3. Arthur Smith doesn’t believe this is a rebuilding season

Even if the Atlanta head coach knows deep down the Falcons aren’t going to contend this season nothing about his approach or coaching speaks to that.  Smith’s coaching and approach speak to the fact he believes in his roster and their execution shows their belief in their head coach. While this is hardly going to result in a lot of wins for a roster dealing with well over $70-million in dead cap Smith is going to do everything he can to win games this season.

Atlanta believes they have their quarterback in Desmond Ridder and have little reason to tank in a bad division within a weak NFC that gives them a real shot at hanging in the wildcard race deep into the season.

Smith owes it to this team and to himself to give Atlanta their best chance to win and it’s obvious that is no longer Marcus Mariota. Desmond Ridder has had plenty of time to learn the offense and build chemistry with the Atlanta pass catchers.

Ridder is Atlanta’s best chance at the position and should have been in the starting lineup two weeks ago.
