Atlanta Falcons: Calvin Ridley’s trade destination is as ironic as it gets
We all should have seen this coming from a mile away, it just had to happen this way. The Atlanta Falcons were destined to trade Pro Bowl wide receiver Calvin Ridley to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
While it was totally out of left field that the Falcons traded suspended wide receiver Calvin Ridley before the trade deadline, what wasn’t shocking is where he ended up. Throw out all of the factors that could make a team interested in a certain player and just look at the non-football-related scenario.
Not quite following? Well, let’s explain why it was preordained that the Jaguars would end up with Ridley.
Atlanta Falcons trade Calvin Ridley to the Jaguars…… the same team he bet against
Going back to last year, November 28th to be exact, the Atlanta Falcons traveled to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars. They didn’t have their top receiver in Calvin Ridley, due to his mental health break from football, but still managed to pull out a victory to even their record back to .500.
It was the 17th opponent on their schedule, meaning that if the NFL never extended the regular season by one game, they never would have played the Jaguars.
This was also the game that Calvin Ridley was caught wagering money on, which led to his year-long suspension, which also probably cost the Falcons a first-round pick.
Now, here we are halfway through the season and the Jacksonville Jaguars pre-ordered a receiver who had zero faith in them last season. It just had to happen this way and we all should have seen it coming.

On a more serious note, Calvin Ridley seems pretty ecstatic to be heading to Jacksonville.
He has been retweeting a bunch of Jaguars-related things ever since he was traded away from the Dirty Birds. Hopefully, he plays well, not just because he was a great player and person for Atlanta but also because he can help the team that drafted him due to the conditional draft picks the Falcons got in return.
