For those of you who like things official before you get your hopes up, now you can because the Atlanta Falcons have officially named rookie Desmond Ridder as the starting quarterback.

The rookie quarterback replaces Marcus Mariota and will get his first action in a meaningful game on Sunday against the rival Saints. What better way to introduce yourself?

Atlanta Falcons officially announce that Desmond Ridder is the starting QB

Many of you probably already thought it was official, but technically it wasn’t. We were stuck in that period of time where literally everyone reports the news except for the team. But now the Atlanta Falcons have officially signed off on promoting Desmond Ridder to starting quarterback.

It was initially reported by Ian Rapoport a week ago that the Falcons had made the move but it took until today for us to finally see this tweet that we have all been begging for:

The quarterback out of Cincinnati will be the sixth rookie quarterback to make a start this year. You probably saw the most recent one when Brock Purdy smoked Tom Brady and the Buccaneers. We are all hoping for a similar result for the next rookie QB against the Saints.

Ridder will try to improve a passing game that currently ranks next-to-last in passing yards. There have been a lot of air yards left on the field, so if he can be accurate in throwing the football then the offense should improve.

What he does have going for him is that the Falcons rank in the top five in rushing yards. A good ground game will always help out a young quarterback.

He will be tested in his first two games as he will travel to New Orleans and to Baltimore hoping to keep the slight playoff hopes alive for his Falcons.
