Falcons would make rival coaches quit by drafting this UGA player
Wow, that was pure domination by the Georgia Bulldogs in the College Football National Championship Game. They walked all over TCU and surely there were a lot of Atlanta Falcons fans who were more than ecstatic at the outcome. What would make them even more ecstatic is if the Dirty Birds were to draft UGA tight end, Darnell Washington, in the upcoming NFL Draft.
Washington might not have stellar numbers in college but he more than makes up for it in size and to pair that size with Drake London and Kyle Pitts would be more than enough to make opposing defensive coordinators quit their job.
UGA TE Darnell Washington would be terrifying on the Atlanta Falcons’ offense
If you are screaming at your phone or computer right now saying that the Atlanta Falcons don’t need another tight end because they have Kyle Pitts, then you are wrong. Arthur Smith runs more two-tight end personnel than anyone and, therefore, having two-elite tight ends in the system is equivalent to the Miami Dolphins having two-elite wide receivers. The Falcons could use another playmaker at the position, like, perhaps, UGA’s Darnell Washington.
If you don’t know about Washington then let me explain how freakish he is by telling you that he is six-foot-seven, and 270 pounds. Watching him run down the seam when he caught his lone pass in the National Championship, I have never seen a player look so massive on a football field. And then there was the sight of seeing him standing a head above his teammates as they walked through the tunnel at halftime. It was jaw-dropping, to say the least.
He can also run faster than you would ever believe possible from someone that massive. They say he can run a forty-yard dash in just over 4.6 seconds.
Now, tell me if you would want to tackle a person that is six-foot-seven, 270 pounds, and can run 20 miles per hour? Now, how about trying to cover three players who are 6’5″, 6’6″, and 6’7″ (Drake London, Kyle Pitts, and Darnell Washington)? For reference, that is a combined height that would be about as tall as a two-story building and their combined weight would be more than a full-sized male tiger.
What NFL team has three players that can match up with three players over six-foot-five? The average height for an NFL defensive back is six-foot. You get the idea, this would make for a nightmare for opposing coaches.
Must Read: Tom Brady will kick the Falcons but not shake their hands.
The only thing is that Washington had his best season during the season that just ended. He only had 28 catches for 454 yards and two touchdowns. His NFL profile is all a projection of his size and athletic ability, not his production. With that being said, he was sitting behind the best tight end in the country in Brock Bowers, so take it for what it’s worth.
All I am saying is that seeing Darnell Washington in a Falcons uniform would be thrilling. There is no team that would be able to match up with this team physically which could be too good to pass up if you are Terry Fontenot.
His projections have been everywhere from the mid-first round to the second round. Fontenot should either trade back in the first round to select him or hope he is there in the second round.
