3 Reasons the Atlanta Falcons should trust Desmond Ridder next season
By Nick Halden
3. The cost of adding a quarterback
Looking at options the Atlanta Falcons know gives them a better chance than Desmond Ridder moving forward the known list of potential targets is simple Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Derek Carr, Lamar Jackson, and arguably Jimmy G. or Geno Smith. That’s it that is the complete list of quarterbacks who we know are better than Ridder. The other names on the market like Jacoby Brissett or Baker Mayfield while more proven are likely looking for backup jobs.
Even in the complete hypothetical that one of the top five quarterbacks on the market wants to land in Atlanta what it would take to land a Lamar or Carr would take away Atlanta’s ability to build a complete roster. The cost of adding a top quarterback takes away Atlanta’s ability to build a team capable of competing in the playoffs putting them in the exact same position they were in for a number of years with Matt Ryan. Any options the Falcons have of adding a top quarterback hurts the roster enough to push Atlanta back on the fringes of contention instead of building a complete roster and trusting Ridder to learn the offense and play at an average level with a complete team.
