1. San Francisco 49ers

This is going to be the obvious fit everyone will be pointing to when Matt Ryan is first cut. The team has two quarterbacks in Brock Purdy and Trey Lance both dealing with serious injuries and both facing questions as starters in this league. San Francisco has a history of running through quarterbacks and having a veteran with Matt Ryan’s history would be a huge asset.

Add in the obvious connection between the head coach and Ryan and the fit makes far too much sense not to be considered. While Ryan was five years younger when these two last paired up it ended with a Super Bowl appearance and an MVP a level of play Ryan has been unable to match since that time.

In this offense even starting the year as a backup history tells us that Matt would get his chance and arguably there is no easier place for a quarterback to play. Shanahan could bring Ryan in with a chance to compete for the job and as a mentor to Lance and Purdy. A great insurance policy for San Francisco and from Ryan’s perspective the team with the best chance to get his career back on track.
