It feels weird to say. The Atlanta Falcons are officially 10 practices deep in training camp, and we're just a couple of days away from seeing this team play a game for the first time this summer, as they're set to host the Denver Broncos in their preseason opener on Friday night--and the starters will play.
The Falcons took the field on Monday afternoon for the first time since the "Saturday Night Lights" practice on Saturday night. We got to see the team play at Lanier High School in Sugar Hill, and though the practice ended about a half-hour early due to lightning, we got to see live tackling drills.
Since it was a Saturday night session with contact, the Falcons had the day off on Sunday, but it's a new week, and this team is back to the grind. Because of Friday's game, they only have two more sessions this week,
A lot of good and a lot of bad for the quarterbacks
It's only fitting to start a practice update with an update on the most important position on the field The quarterback battle between Michael Penix Jr. and Tua Tagovailoa is all but over, but that hasn't stopped Penix from lighting it up in 7-on-7s, as he enjoyed possibly his best practice of the summer.
Penix went 9-for-11 passing in 7s, which included completions to eight different receivers. However, the 26-year-old still had a few nice completions to Drake London and a drop in the bucket down the right sideline to Kyle Pitts. However, he did end 7s on a bad note as Clark Phillips III picked him off.

As for as Tagovailoa goes, he went 2-for-4 in 7s and 4-for-6 in 11-on-11, although some of his best moments came in 1-on-1s with London and A.J. Terrell going at each other. And Cooper Rush was picked off by Xavier Watts in 11s, so all in all, a lot of action (both good and bad) on the QB front.

An injury scare for Avieon Terrell
One of the biggest storylines of the day came from rookie corner Avieon Terrell, and unfortunately, it wasn't a good one. According to 92.9 The Game's Joe Patrick, Terrell reportedly left practice with an apparent injury during the individual period, when he was seen by trainers in the weight room.
Terrell also walked off into the weight room, but he returned with his helmet in hand moments later. However, while he did return to the field, he did not participate upon returning. We don't know the extent of the injury quite yet, but losing him at all would be bad given his newfound momentum.
Terrell Island has made its return
While Avieon Terrell offered the Dirty Birds a minor scare, his older brother A.J. had a strong day in practice. During 1-on-1s in practice with Tua Tagovailoa throwing, he took on Drake London, where he picked off the pass on the first go-around, but the saga between these three stars didn't end here.
On the next go-around, Tagovailoa and London connected for a touchdown over Terrell, but taking one of two against one of the most physically imposing receivers in the game is something to be impressed about...
Jawaan Taylor is back, but there's a catch
After the Falcons got Zach Harrison back for Saturday's practice, they activated another key starter in time for Monday's session, Jawaan Taylor. Taylor started the summer on the active/PUP list after being sidelined for most of OTAs with an elbow issue, and his activation came at the expense of Jack Nelson.
Though Taylor returned to practice, he was on the field, but did no team work, since the Falcons are likely easing him back in after an extended absence. According to The Athletic's Josh Kendall, seventh-round tackle Ethan Onianwa reportedly took all first-team reps in his place during team work.
No worries on the Harold Perkins Jr. front
If you thought Avieon Terrell was the only major injury the Falcons dealt with on Monday, you would be wrong. With Divine Deablo sidelined due to injury, both rookie linebackers in Atlanta took first-team reps: fourth-rounder Kendal Daniels and sixth-round LB Harold Perkins Jr. mostly ran with the 1s.
They both continued eating into Christian Harris' snap share, but Perkins left practice early with a trainer. However, there is nothing to worry about, as while addressing the media after practice, Perk revealed that his chest/pec tightened up but he's feeling good--squashing any possible concern.
